Making Waves: New Romanian Cinema retrospective, The Romanians: 30 Years of Cinema Revolution. This landmark cinema event spans the 30 years following the revolution and fall of communism, and is the largest series dedicated to Romanian film ever to be presented in the U.S. to date. The exhibition includes 30 groundbreaking cinematic classics such as Un Certain Regard winner The Death of Mr Lăzărescu by Cristi Puiu, Lucian Pintilie’s The Oak in new 4K restoration, Tuesday, After Christmas by Radu Muntean, Venice Film Festival Silver Lion winner Luxury Hotel by Dan Pița, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days by Cristian Mungiu, Videograms of a Revolution by Harun Farocki and Andrei Ujică and so many others. The program premiered at New York’s Film Forum in November 2019, and a large selection of the films will tour through May 2020, beginning at the University of California at Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA) and continuing at Seattle Northwest Film Forum and SIFF Film Center, Philadelphia's Lightbox Film Center, Phoenix's ASU Marston Exploration, Silver Spring's AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center and Washington DC's National Gallery of Art.
With the win for Parasite at the Oscars, it feels like a revolutionary time for international film and sharing them with new national audiences.
