The newly created sales division arm (from the Noah Group) kicks off with major UK Amazon Prime Video and BBC deals on sports documentary THE EDGE
Noah Media Group, the creators of acclaimed sports documentaries including BOBBY ROBSON: MORE THAN A MANAGER (Netflix) and STEVE McQUEEN: THE MAN & LE MANS (Official Cannes selection, 2015), today announced the launch of their London-based in-house International Sales arm.
Making a significant start to proceedings in the UK, the newly-appointed Sales team have secured major SVOD and TV sales with Amazon Prime Video and the BBC respectively, on their cricket feature documentary THE EDGE.
Noah Media Group will now embark on global sales of this summer’s critically lauded documentary, which explores the ruthless intensity of the game, the impact it can have on players’ mental health and the extreme price of success.
The film is available on Amazon Prime Video in the UK and the BBC’s exclusive TV rights will come into play in 2020, with the streaming and broadcast partners’ involvement illustrating the film’s reach across multiple audiences, beyond sports fans alone.
A significant move for Noah Media Group into the International Sales sphere, today’s announcement signals the next phase in the company’s development.
The sales division is headed up by Catherine Quantschnigg who, prior to joining Noah Media Group, was Head of Sales at award-winning factual production company, Atlantic Productions. Quantschnigg has also held executive sales positions at Goldcrest and Cornerstone Films.
Following the UK deals, global sales on THE EDGE will begin in earnest at MIPCOM later this month. Further titles on Noah Media Group’s inaugural sales slate include the Cannes selected STEVE McQUEEN: THE MAN & LE MANS, which tells the true story of the Hollywood superstar’s passion project that turned into a disaster; TAKE HIS LEGS, charting Australian comedian Adam Hills’ formation of the world’s first physical disability rugby league team; and OUT OF THEIR SKIN, with Ian Wright fronting the 40-year history of black British football.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Mandy Chang, Head of Factual Acquisitions, BBC Content, said:
“BBC Two is delighted to be showing this uplifting and epic tale of the England Test cricket team's rise to the top of the world rankings and the subsequent challenges they faced both on and off the field, to its audiences next summer as live TV coverage of English international and domestic cricket comes back to BBC Television.”
Noah Media Group CEO John McKenna added:
“We are thrilled that Noah’s latest documentary has found a home in the UK with such significant partners as Amazon Prime Video & the BBC. As a young, independent company with a fast-growing slate, we feel it is important to keep evolving in the constantly changing media world, and our Sales arm is our next stage in this.”
Head of Sales at Noah Media Group, Catherine Quantschnigg said:
“These UK deals mark an exciting time for Noah Media Group as we launch our International Sales. The appeal of intelligent, sport-focused documentaries has never been greater, and these partners are a testament to the important topics addressed in The Edge. We look forward to bringing our unique slate to the international market place.”
With a Gala Screening launch at London’s legendary Lord’s cricket ground in July in the presence of the cricketing greats that feature in the film, THE EDGE was released theatrically in the UK this summer. It held the top position on the iTunes chart for three consecutive weeks, and is still topping the sport documentary iTunes and Amazon charts in the UK.
Described as “A moving examination of the prizes and prices of sporting success" (The Times) and “A whole new level of insight…Joyous…haunting.” (The Telegraph), THE EDGE has been critically acclaimed and is the rock ‘n’ roll story of one of the greatest English sporting teams of all time. Between 2009 and 2013, the England Test cricket team rose from the depths of the rankings to become the first and only English side to reach world #1. A compelling, funny and emotional insight into a band of brothers’ rise to the top, the film follows their unmatched achievements and the huge toll it would take.
THE EDGE is directed by Barney Douglas (Warriors), and produced by Gabriel Clarke, Torquil Jones & John McKenna of Noah Media Group, along with Douglas.
Noah Media Group are currently in production on a feature-length documentary about the legendary football player, manager, World Cup winner, Freeman of Dublin and Honorary Citizen of Ireland, Jack Charlton. International sales on the as-yet untitled feature, will again be handled by Noah’s new sales division.
