"Not TV"
“Too Old To Die Young” premiered yesterday evening at the festival. Though it is technically a TV series that Amazon Studios is delivering, director Nicolas Winding Refn describes it as a movie, just a 13 hour movie. During his press conference this afternoon, he elaborated on this statement, saying the movie wasn’t TV, but that it was part of the future, and that future is streaming. Amazon Studios already picked up Ladj Ly’s in competition film “Les Misérables,” and that purchase sparked further support of streaming platforms purchasing rights at the festival. Refn commented on the importance of streaming platforms, saying they are becoming something more than just TV. The director also described his appreciation for having something bigger to display what he had worked on, something that is becoming a part of everyday society. Lastly the director, who has had a history in traditional studio-to-theater films, commented on how studios are also preparing for this new world of online streaming as the first platform for films, and how the streaming network is soon to become the ultimate network.
