VOLTAGE PICTURES BOARDS INTERNATIONAL SALES ON MAVEN PICTURES AND OREN MOVERMAN'S “SKIN”
GUY NATTIV’S TIFF AWARD WINNING FILM STARS JAMIE BELL, VERA FARMIGA AND DANIELLE MCDONALD
Voltage Pictures will be handling foreign sales on Guy Nattiv’s Skin starring Jamie Bell, Vera Farmiga and Danielle McDonald, it was announced today by company President and COO Jonathan Deckter. The film premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI Price and received strong reviews (currently 100% on Rotten Tomatoes), as well as awards buzz for Bell. A24 / DIRECTV acquired the film for North American distribution.
Inspired by true events, Skin follows the story of Bryon Widner, played by Bell, a young man who risks it all to turn his back on the notorious group of white supremacist skinheads who raised him and transformed his life.
Maven Pictures’ Celine Rattray and Trudie Styler produced the film alongside Jaime Ray Newman, Oren Moverman, Dillon D. Jordan and Nattiv who directed and wrote the screenplay. Production companies include Maven Pictures, Sight Unseen Pictures, New Native Pictures, TUGAWOOD Pictures, PaperChase Films, Lost Lane Entertainment, Brookstreet Pictures, Come What May Productions, Allusionist Picture House, and Hua Wen Movie Group.
Maven’s recent productions include The Kindergarten Teacher starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Novitiate starring Melissa Leo, both of which won awards for Dramatic Directing at the Sundance Film Festival during the last two years.
“It’s truly a pleasure to be working with Guy, Trudie and Celine and the team on this incredibly powerful film. We could not be more proud to have this film on our slate,” noted Deckter.
“We are thrilled to be working with Jonathan and his team at Voltage. They believe in the power of Bryon’s story and its themes of tolerance, empathy, and love. These are vital and urgent messages for our world today,” said the producers in a joint statement.
“I am honored to partner with Voltage Pictures on my first US film SKIN. In these crazy times of uncertainty, I am proud that they will show the world this story of redemption and possibility beyond a life of hate," said Guy Nattiv.
The cast also includes Academy Award-nominee Vera Farmiga, Patti Cake$ breakout star Danielle MacDonald, Girls Trip’s Mike Colter and Emmy Award-nominee Bill Camp and is set to be released domestically in 2019. The deal was negotiated by Peter Trinh of ICM and Jonathan Deckter for Voltage.
