Out of more than 1,200 entries from 87 countries the program commission has selected "Scrappy" by Dawn Westlake to be part of the ZEBRINO competition of the ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival Münster|Berlin.
"Scrappy" is based on the Studs Terkel Award-winning poem of the same name by Dawn's father, Donald G. Westlake. It recounts the real-life anecdote from Westlake's life when as a 6-year-old he had to stand up to the gun culture in the USA in his small town of Elburn, IL in the 1930s.
The film was shot on location in Pine Mountain, California in September of 2016 by Pol Carrizo Vilarroig of Imatge Barcelona on the Canon C300, provided by Canon USA, Inc. An original score was composed by GC Johnson of Acoustic Labs.
"Scrappy" marks the professional acting debut of 5-year-old Nefertina Lizarraga and her dog Kong (in the titular role of SCRAPPY).
