The line-up for the 12th annual Rural Route Film Festival is up! Screenings will take place at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens w/an Opening Night Screening Party at Brooklyn Grange’s flagship rooftop farm just down the street on Northern Blvd. in Long Island City w/after-party at COFFEED below.
This year’s festival is centered around stories of brave youth and their animal friends. The line-up includes a mix of new movies and all-time classics, plus top notch shorts from around the globe. Features include Yared Zeleke’s Ethiopian-set LAMB, which debuted at Cannes last year; plus New York premieres of German director Veit Helmer’s Little Rascals-inspired FIDDLESTICKS, and Moein Karimoddini’s documentary, ATLAN, about a young Iranian Turkmen horse trainer. Rounding out the line-up are gorgeous family favorites, THE BLACK STALLION and WHITE MANE. Avant-garde toy piano player, Phyllis Chen will also play a live set on toy instruments in the Museum of the Moving Image’s outdoor courtyard.
The Brooklyn Grange event includes a ukulele performance by local guru, Sakai, plus a mix of narrative, animated, documentary and experimental shorts from Maine, the Netherlands, Tennessee, the Georgian/Armenian border, Iowa, Iceland and beyond – w/several filmmakers in attendance! There will be food and beer specials afterwards courtesy of COFFEED and SingleCut, w/the support of the Dutch Consulate.
