Krigen (A War), directed by Tobias Lindholm, 5th September 2015, Venice Film Festival sketch by Nesta

Krigen, a film by Tobias Lindholm, a conversation from a danish perspective, a story full of impossible choices and no ending, concerned with the truth and our addiction to war. The filmmakers got scared, were not amused by the imagination of war as they were not trained in a life experience of war, and so called the danish soldiers to set. The real experts, professionals with three points of view, who have no choice in war, were used for perfection of gun control, like a therapy of confrontation, a gift to the production.

Actor Pilou Asbaek reads a script and shows it off to his best ability, he spent 3 months in Boot camp training for the lead role in Krigen, you know the moment the enemy drops the gun he’s a civilian. The process of learning the movement in war was unimaginable, that people kill in the name of democracy, and at heart protect their family. Pilou proposes that films should ask questions, and create empathy without character; his own family background with parents who are art dealers is a far cry from the experience of the lead character in this film.

The final scene was set up so the cast did not know the sentence handed down, creating a very real emotional drama; and for the judgement and part, his heart said yes but his brains said no, some things keep you rich and some keep your honour.
