There are many advantages in submitting your film to us.
1. A free festival pass for all filmmakers who submit
That’s right! Everyone who submits their film to MMFF, regardless of whether or not your film is accepted, gets a free pass to attend the entire festival.
2. It’s free to submit for locals
Films of any length and genre can be submitted at no cost if they were produced with 100 km of Ottawa.
3. Fewer restrictions than most festivals
MMFF believes in creating opportunities for filmmakers to show their work, not taking them away. As such, there are no premiere or date-of-completion requirements. Your film may have screened in the Ottawa region before and does not need to be new. You are also still eligible to submit if your film has distribution, has been broadcast on television, and/or is available to view in full online.
4. You’ll be kept in the loop
Most film festivals only contact successful applicants with information on jury decisions and final selections. We know how frustrating it can be for hopeful filmmakers to be kept in the dark. MMFF will email you shortly after you submit to confirm we’ve received your application, and later, you’ll get another email from us to inform you of the results, regardless of whether or not your film was selected.
5. Your money back
If your film is accepted to play in the festival, we’ll pay you back your submission fee.
6. Great awards for winning filmmakers
MMFF believes in celebrating talent, and recognizing those in our community who create exceptional work. Check out our list of awards for a breakdown of what award winners can expect to receive!
7. Be seen
Filmmakers whose work is chosen for inclusion in the festival will be invited to attend and to participate in Q&A sessions. Filmmakers will also be invited to provide a trailer and/or to create a 30-second spoken video introduction promoting their film that will be a part of MMFF’s social media campaign.
8. Get informed
MMFF is dedicated to helping filmmakers advance their practice by providing opportunities for professional development and learning. In addition to numerous networking opportunities, MMFF will also be presenting Q&A sessions with attending filmmakers and hosting a panel discussion with industry professionals on topics relevant to contemporary independent filmmaking.
9. A friendly and alternative atmosphere
MMFF 2015 will take place in the intimate underground venue of Club SAW, one of the capital’s most beloved and long-standing independent arts and music venues. Club SAW is perfect for networking with your fellow filmmakers and is one of Ottawa’s best party spots.
