The 58th SEMINCI opens tomorrow in Valladolid with Spanish director Mar Coll, Todos queremos lo major para ello and will be closed on October 26th with a documentary (out of competition) directed by Andrzei Wajda about the labor leader Lech Walesa.
Javier Angulo, Valladolid International Film Festival Director on his opening letter: Lovers of independent and auteur cinema are going to really need such unique showcases as film festivals like SEMINCI can today provide. Since we always were —and continue to be— Spain’s auteur film festival par excellence, we emphatically defend in front of you film lovers (and also before the Spanish cultural officials) the role we play, while we also call for the strong and sincere support of everyone involved.
Morocco is the country invited this year and there will be a retrospective showing the reality of the country during the past 15 years.
Director Jose Luis Guerín and Goya Award winner (2013) actor José Sacristán will be in charge of two Master Class with students and cinephiles. Sacristán will also receive the Honor Golden Spike along with French director Jacques Audiard, American Paul Schrader and Honor Goya Award 2013, Concha Velasco.
Nabil Ayouch,Ginger Corbett,Thomas Bidegain,Nuria Vidal,Raoul Peck,Ana Torrent are members of the International Jury who will give the prices: “Spikes”, they can be gold or silver, are the awards given to the best competing films in the Official Section.
