Irish director Ruairi Robinson’s feature film debut, sci-fi thriller ‘Last Days on Mars’ (2013), screened at the 66th Cannes Film Festival in the Director’s Fortnight section. Written by Clive Dawson, the film is about the last days an astronaut crew spends on their journey to Mars. During their trip they find some vestiges of life on this supposedly dead planet. In their last hours before leaving, the extraterrestrial life turns out to be more evolved than they thought, and a biological killer. The astronauts must escape the Red Planet before the life on it takes up a host residence inside their own body.
The film stars Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai, Elias Koteas, Olivia Williams, Johnny Harris, Goran Kostić, Tom Cullen and Yusra Warsama. ‘Last Days on Mars’ has been picked up by Focus Features International and is scheduled for release on September 19, 2013.
