Thai Director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, who took home the 2010 Palme d’Or for his film ‘UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES (2010)’, returns to Cannes two years later to present his latest work, 'MEKONG HOTEL' (2012).
'MEKONG HOTEL' is an experimental film featuring the director himself as he works with cast and crew on another of his films called: 'THE ECSTACY GARDEN'. True to Apichatpong’s authentic auteurship the film uses a potpourri of genres mixing reality and dream, earthly and supernatural, feature and documentary, creating his own world where the borders between narrative and nonfiction are blurred and where all opposites are set apart yet blended together. Shot during monsoon season in Thailand on the Mekong River on the border between Laos and Thailand, the river itself could be a character and symbol of the paradox and unity of opposites in 'MEKONG HOTEL'.
Written and Directed by: Apichatpong WEERASETHAKUL
