The winners of the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film 2012 have been chosen

on its 30th birthday, the Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film has found its place at the centre of the city and the hearts of the local population. "On the one hand the Festival has become one of the most important meeting places for international animated film whilst on the other, it has brought life and international flair to Stuttgart's front room," said Ulrich Wegenast, Artistic Managing Director of the Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH, which has been organising the Festival of Animated Film since 2001. Just as the Festival's fan base continues to grow, the Festival has established itself further in the city of Stuttgart and thanks to its new event locations, the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Breuninger fashion house, has grabbed the attention of Stuttgart's top names. "At the same time, the screenings are reaching new target groups," the Commercial Managing Director, Dittmar Lumpp declared. "We are delighted about this new partnership with such renowned companies which are suited to us and with which we can approach new topics such as animation and fashion."

Of course the programme, which this year was more diverse than ever before, contributes to this: it included the best international animated films in sold-out competition categories, numerous German premieres for feature films such as the US box-office hit "The Lorax", programmes curated by international experts such as "Journeying with Shadows" about silhouette film, put together by Hassan Muthalib (Kuala Lumpur) or "Why Hungary?", the focus on a particular country and a number of films as well as join-in activities for the young ones and events for youths - from the new "Cartoons for Teens" competition to the Machinima workshops. All events were received with enthusiasm. "The 19th. Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film was a complete success. The ITFS presented a wonderful atmosphere, full theatres and an overcrowded open air area for six days and nights in Stuttgart's city centre. More than 80,000 enthusiastic visitors were there," said a delighted Lumpp.

Together with the Stuttgart Region Economic Development Corporation, the Festival's organisers have developed the "Raumwelten" congress, a new business platform for communication in space. "The congress has fulfilled all expectations and the quality programme with numerous excellent speakers has been well received," said Wegenast. Furthermore, the industry was able to catch up on the latest developments in the field of animation at the Festival of Animated Film, as well as at the industry's meet, the FMX 2012, and the Animation Production Day (APD).

On Sunday evening, May 13, 2012, the Festival ended at 8 pm with the grand award ceremony. Celebrities from politics, commerce and culture such as Mayor Wolfgang Schuster, actress and former "Tatort" detective Andrea Sawatzki and actress Cosma Shiva Hagen were present as the awards, worth over 70,000 Euros were presented. The host for the evening, Markus Brock (SWR), was as entertaining as usual.
