Altogether 101 pictures will compete in 5 categories (feature, short, documentary, scientific, television) throughout the upcoming Hungarian Film Week, a unique opportunity to experience modern Magyar cinema directly alongside the filmmakers in Budapest. The 40th anniversary edition will be held from 27 January till 3 February at four locations in the Hungarian capital.
The competition titles have been selected from 335 Hungarian productions (26 features, 120 shorts, 152 documentaries, 28 scientific and 9 television productions) completed in the last 12 months.
From among the 26 full-length feature films entered to the competition program a committee formed by Hungarian professionals selected 18 finalists to compete for the prizes of the 40th Film Week. The anniversary edition of the traditional Magyar cinema event will be dominated by the young generation since seven of the competitors are first time directors.
Beside talent spotting, the Hungarian Film Week will offer the latest movies by renowned filmmakers such as Péter Bacsó, Krisztina Goda, Gábor Herendi, Tamás Sas for the national audience and foreign professionals as well. The 40th Film Week’s feature competition will be enriched by ten world premieres including new pictures by János Edelényi. Péter Gárdos, György Pálfi, Árpád Sopsits, András Szirtes, Dezső Zsigmond and Roland Vranik.
The most important Magyar cinema showcase will be held at Budapest Congress and World Trade Center, Palace Mom Park Cinemas, Urania National Film Palace and arthouse movie theatre Bem.
Gala premieres with attendance of the filmmakers will be hosted by congress center’s 1500 seats screening location while 9 rooms multiplex, Place Mom Park will serve as the main location of the screenings.
Film Week’s board is presided by cinematographer Emil Novák this year. Opening film, juries and sidebar programs will be announced shortly.
