Honoring the power of independent films and their filmmakers, the Malibu International Film Festival is proud to announce the selected films for its impressive eighth season. The 2007 festival running from April 13 – April 16, will present over 50 films to more than 10,000 festival filmophiles during the four day event. Each film is hand-picked by the festival jury from over 2,000 entries submitted directly by the filmmakers.
Consistent with its prominence as a premier festival, this years Malibu International Film Festival will screen world; west coast or Los Angeles premieres of (5) features; (35) short films; (7) animated short films and (7) documentaries. With each film screening at the American Cinematheque's 400 seat Aero Theater in the trendy part of Santa Monica.
The 2007 Malibu International Film Festival is proud to announce the following short films for their opening night event; "The Toll"; "Life is Short"; "Hollow"; "Lance is a Jerk"; "Greetings From Earth"; and "Love Hollywood Style". “Mo,” a film directed by Brian Lederman, is being honored as one of the Festival’s Centerpiece Film’s. “We feel that “Mo” is consistent with the mission of the festival. It is a unique and compelling story told in a way that everyone can relate to,” said David Katz, Festival Producer. Additionally the festival will screen the world premiere of Gideon Raff’s directorial debut “The Killing Floor” as the Festival’s succeeding Centerpiece Film. “The Killing Floor’ hits every aspect you look for in a thriller,” Katz said.
The 8th Malibu International Film Festival will kickoff in traditional festival style with a celebratory Opening Night party at the Writers Boot Camp located in the Bergamont Station Arts Center with DJ Jason Bentley of KCRW. The Festival continues with a weekend of film screenings and wraps up in high style with the Geoffrey’s Malibu Awards Night Dinner Party. Awards night will feature red carpet arrivals and an “A" List Celebrity (To Be Announced) honored as this years Celebrity Festival Honoree. Additionally the dinner party will recognize all the award-winning films and filmmakers of the 2007 Malibu International Film Festival. Previous Festival Celebrity honorees have included Pierce Brosnan, James Cameron, Brett Ratner and many other prominent artists in the film industry.
