Once again this year, the Montreal World Film Festival (Montreal International Film Festival), the 29th edition of which will run from August 26 to September 5, 2005, plays host to a large contingent of Latin American films. A total of twenty-three works will be screened this year, some of them from well-known directors like Miguel Littin (The last moon), Raoul Ruiz (The lost domain), Bruno Barreto (Romeo and Juliet get married), and Sylvio Caiozzi (Cachimba), who is also a member of the 2005 MWFF jury.
The noted contemporary journalist, writer, and thinker Ignacio Ramonet conducted a seven-hour interview with Fidel Castro, who relates the entire history of Latin America as well as Cuba. His son, Axel Ramonet (Fidel Castro, Conversations with Ignacio Ramonet) directed the film.
Also noteworthy is that this year Bolivia has entered an excellent film in the First Films World Competition entitled Say good morning to dad. The film tells the story of the death of Che Guevara and the mythology that has grown up around him in Bolivia.
The twenty-three films from Latin America are:
The Gold Tooth by Daniel Rodriguez (Peru), El buen destino by Leonor Benedetto (Argentina, Spain), Say good morning to dad by Fernando Vargas (Bolivia, Argentina, Cuba), Romeo and Juliet get married by Bruno Barreto (Brazil), The last moon by Miguel Littin (Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Spain), The lost domain by Raoul Ruiz (France, Romania, Spain, Italy, Chile), Garua by Gustavo Corrado (Argentina), The hidden tiger by Luis Barone (Argentina), One minute of silence by Roberto Maiocco (Argentina, Spain), Redeemer by Claudio Torres (Brazil), Playing in the dark by Toni Venturi (Brazil), Play by Alicia Scherson (Chile, Argentina, France), Cachimba by Silvio Caiozzi (Chile, Spain, Argentina), Visits by Pedro Lange (Colombia, USA), Alma mater by Alvaro Buela (Uruguay, Canada), Raping by Juan Angel Cordonva (Mexico), Samuel DeMango by Everett R.
