The Festival of Nouveau Cinema de Montréal (FNC) announces eight new titles and one retrospective among the 150 enticing offerings on the program for the 34th edition, which will be held from October 13 to 23 at Ex-Centris, Cinéma Impérial, Cinémathèque québécoise, the Hall Theatre at Concordia University, Cinéma du Parc, and the Studio at the Just for Laughs Museum.
Programming Director Claude Chamberlan is proud to announce the world-premiere screening of PETIT POW! POW! NOEL, Robert Morin’s
(Quebec/Canada) new shock film; DEAR WENDY, the latest film by Danish cinema ’s enfant terrible Thomas Vinterberg; FREE ZONE by Amos Gitai (Israel), for which Israeli actress Hanna Laslo won Best Actress at Cannes in 2005; ZIM & CO. by Pierre Jolivet (France); NUIT NOIRE by Olivier Smolders (Belgium); ALL ABOUT MY DOG, directed by a Japanese cinema collective and produced by Taka Ichise; and, in its North American premiere after the successful presentation of a 30-minute version last year, the final, full-length version of FINAL FANTASY VII: Advent Children by Tetsuya Nomura and Takeshi Nozue (Japan).
The FNC will present MONTRÉAL MAIN, by Frank Vitale, in collaboration with the Société de développement du Boulevard Saint-Laurent to celebrate 100 years of the Main. Made in 1974, the film portrays Montreal’s artistic scene with extraordinary honesty, and quickly became a cult film for the Main’s communities.
The FNC will also join the Cinémathèque québécoise in presenting a complete retrospective of the work of Russian filmmaker AleKSandr Sokurov.
In June, the FNC also announced the selection of L’ENFANT by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (Belgium), Palme d’Or winner at Cannes in 2005; MANDERLAY by Lars von Trier (Denmark); LE FILMEUR by Alain Cavalier (France); and ONE NIGHT by Niki Karimi (Iran). Festival programming will be divided into four
