Yes, everyone’s heard of Francis Ford Coppola – The Godfather, Apocalypse Now and Dracula – but his cousin, Bruno Coppola, has been quietly making a name for himself, winning 15 awards at 62 film festivals in twelve countries.
He was the music producer and one of the writers on Godfather III, and was `in charge’ of Al Pacino. But Bruno is best known for his incredible short film, Stuff That Bear!
Shot in Romania, starring the country’s most famous actress, Stuff That Bear! was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and co-written by Laureen Vonnegut, who also has a famous surname (she’s Kurt Vonnegut's niece).
Stuff That Bear! is a triangular love story featuring the `last remaining taxidermist in Bucharest’ and his Mafioso brother who scheme to escape the country, and a lap-dancer whose combination of insecurity and sex appeal might cause them to change their plans.
Stuff That Bear! Is being screened as part of the Best of Kino at 3pm Wednesday 10th November at Red Cinema (admission free).
Bruno Coppola himself will be co-presenting the Festival’s Masterclass Workshop with Yousaf Ali Khan on Friday 12th November 11am-1pm (Red Cinema, admission free). And boy does he have some stories to tell !
