CATEGORIES
Narrative Feature: Fiction films that are 40 minutes or longer.
Narrative Short: Fiction films that are 39 minutes or less.
Animation: Projects 39 minutes or less, animated by any means.
Experimental: Projects that are 30 minutes or less and explore new and creative uses of film and video, whether in technique, form, or both.
Documentary Feature: Non-fiction films that are 40 minutes or longer.
Documentary Short: Non-fiction films that are 39 minutes or less.
Louisiana Feature& Short: The New Orleans Film Festival has designated two categories of submissions for films made by Louisiana filmmakers. To submit in this category, the director of the film must currently be a resident of the state and have lived in Louisiana since January 2011. Please indicate in the Withoutabox cover letter where in Louisiana the director lives and how long they have been a Louisiana resident. Proof of residency must be provided (either emailed to competition@neworleansfilmsociety.org or mailed in with the DVDs).

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The New Orleans Film Festival (NOFF) continues its tradition as Louisiana’s preeminent film event, presenting an eclectic program of films each fall with legendary New Orleans as its backdrop. Offering filmmakers and film fans alike an ideal setting in a world-famous city, NOFF attracted more than 13,000 attendees at the 2011 festival. Both established and emerging filmmakers gain media exposure, connect with the region’s diverse audiences, and participate in an acclaimed event attended by industry professionals as well as celebrated luminaries. Over the past two decades, NOFF has welcomed numerous indie icons into its family, including D.A. Pennebaker (Don't Look Back), Jonathan Demme (I'm Carolyn Parker: The Good, The Mad, and The Beautiful), Todd Solondz (Happiness), David Gordon Green (Undertow), and Richard Linklater (Slacker). Many of the Festival’s alumni have gone on to be honored at Sundance, Cannes, the Independent Spirit Awards, and the Academy Awards. The NOFF is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

ENTRY REGULATIONS
Completion Date: Entries must have been completed on or after July 1, 2011.
Language: Foreign language films must be with English subtitles.
Prior Screenings: Entries may not publicly screen in the greater New Orleans area or be televised anywhere in the US prior to the festival.
Prior Submissions: Entries that have been previously submitted to the New Orleans Film Festival are not eligible unless it has been re-edited or otherwise altered so that it is a substantially different film.
Works In Progress: Works in progress will not be accepts for consideration.

SUBMISSION REGULATIONS
Deadline: All Entries must be shipped prepaid in a bubble-pack envelope. All entries must be postmarked by the deadline date for which you are paying.
Formats: Entries must be submitted via secure online links or on DVD (NTSC Region 1 only). Do not put multiple films on the same DVD.
DVD Labeling & Shipping: Preview DVDs must be clearly labeled with the film title, submission category, and run time.
Receipt Acknowledgment: To receive acknowledgment of receipt of your entry (in addition to Withoutabox acknowledgment), you must enclose a self-addressed stamped postcard with your entry.
Notification: Films selected for screening will be notified on or around August 3, 2011.

REQUIRED SUBMISSION MATERIALS
- Entry Fee paid by Visa, Mastercard, money order, or check in US funds to: New Orleans Film Society. International entrants who do not pay by credit card must pay by international money order paid in U.S. dollars through a US bank. Entry fees are not refundable. (Entry fees will be waived for those filmmakers who had a film screened during the 2011 NOFF.)
- Online link or 2 preview DVDs (NTSC only). Please test your DVD on several makes and models of players. DVD+RW and DVD-RW are NOT acceptable formats. DVDs will not be returned.
