Men’s Group explores the very essence of masculinity. Seven men from very different backgrounds meet each week in the privacy of a suburban home to laugh, cry and have it out in an attempt to come to terms with the issues in their lives. The film was made in response to men’s depression, and the great silence that surrounds it.
“We had noticed many men were in crisis,” says John L. Simpson of the films conception. “They just felt they had nowhere to turn. We wanted to help.”
Following the international film festival circuit, and theatrical release in Australia, Men’s Group toured to regional and remote areas of Australia to screen to men’s crisis groups, and help to facilitate open communication between men in communities where depression was largely unreported.
Men’s Group will screen on Monday 30th January 2012 at 7.30pm at Anthology Film Archives, 32 2nd Avenue, New York, NY 10003.
Tickets are renumerated by a 'pay as you feel' system, whereby audience members simply contribute an admission fee after having seen the film, based on its perceived value. There is no obligation to pay.
Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with the Producer and Co-Writer of Men’s Group John L Simpson. The Australian Consulate-General will support the event.
