2nd Malatya Film Festival continuous with significant activities and screenings. With the support of the Malatya Apricot Research, Development and Promotion Foundation and Malatya Governorship, festival is led by Malatya Governor Ulvi Saran and organized by World Mass Media Research Foundation. The festival is embracing the main theme of ‘Migration’ to mark the 50th year of the Turkish workers’ migration to the Germany.
On its second day, Bora Gökşingöl held a workshop on Narrative Film Editing. Gökşingöl has worked on award winning movies such as; Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s THREE MONKEYS (Best Director, Cannes 2008) and ‘ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA’ (Co-winner, Grand Prix, Cannes 2011). He shared his experiences with the participants and talked about the editing techniques for a 90-minute fiction film. The session was followed by a great number of an audience.

A member of the ‘International Feature Film Competition’ jury, Iranian born, French film director and critic, Shahla Nahid expressed his views on the festival “Even if these are the very early days of the festival; MIFF is promising to be a very successful one. We are extremely happy with the organization and the management of the events and the festival in general.” Nahid was in Cannes and Moscow Film Festivals Juries previously. Festival advisor and Vice President of FIBRESCI, Alin Tasciyan also commented on the festival. She said “This is a learning phase for the Malatya Film Festival and I believe that the festival will pass this assessment and will meet the expectations of the filmgoers greatly.”"Malatyans are very similar to the people of Morocco"
Another important event of the day was the gala of the International Feature Film Competition film, Daoud Anoulad Syad ‘s ‘THE MOSQUE’. Syad shared an interesting anecdote with the audience. “Whilst shooting my previous film, the villagers thought that the mosque we build for the film was a real one and when we were away they used it as place worship. At the end of our project, they did not allow us demolish it.” He also said to be very welcomed in Malatya as he found the Malatya locals and the Moroccan people very similar to each other.
