New Bulgarian cinema was remarkably presented at 17th Sarajevo Film Festival. Seven films participated in different festival's sections and two of them received awards.
Konstantin
Bojanov's 'AVE' received Special Jury Award and the prize awarded by
the CINEUROPA portal. Bojanov personally received the awards in the
presence of actors Ovanes Torosian, Angela Nikolova and producer Dimitar
Gotchev. This year's jury of the Competition Programme - Feature Film
was presided by Israeli director Ari Folman ('Watz With Bashir'). The
coproduction between Bulgaria and France participated also successfully
in the International Critics' Week at Cannes in May 2011. The Heart of
Sarajevo Award for Best Feature Film was given to Austrian film
'Breathing' by Karl Markovics.
Nadejda Koseva's 'TAKE TWO'
received the second prize in the Competition Programme - Short Film (1st
Special Mention). This Bulgaria-Germany coproduction was presented in
Sarajevo by the director and the producer Stefan Kitanov. The award was
given by the president of the jury, Macedonian director Milcho
Manchevski ('Before the Rain'). The Heart of Sarajevo Award for Best
Short Film was presented to 'Mezzanine' by Dalibor Matanic (Croatia).
