In New York culture, all roads eventually lead to Andy Warhol. The pop prince, whose doodles now sell for millions at art auctions around the world, was prescient in so many ways about 21st century culture. He was a man of his times but also a prophet of sorts for the democratization and obsessive nature of celebrity (forget 15 minutes of fame......a spotlight can last a mere 15 seconds and still be a license to print money....paging Bristol Palin). The celebrity of those famous...

Writer/director Mohamed Al-Daradji spent seven years on this poetic masterpiece that touches on the timely and hypersensitive subject of the Iraq War and the country now trying to pick itself up from devastation and ruin.   This is a story not of war, however, but of the broken family and a lost civilization. I...

Mohamed Al-Daradji and the Press

Mohamed Al-Daradji and the Press Mohamed made it clear to press that despite much contention surrounding his film about 3 weeks following the US attack on Iraq in 2003, The Son of Babylon is not a political story but a human one.    I then asked him if his non-political drive but rather humanist drive is reflected in the statement of the little boy, Ahmed, at the end of the film who tells his g
