The Life of Fish in Aruba!

user
This year at the open of the 2nd annual Aruba Film Festival (AIFF), one of the films to kick off the festival was the acclaimed Goya award winning film THE LIFE OF FISH (Chile, 2011) by the brilliant director Matias Bize. This was Chile’s 2011 Oscar Entry film and since its world premier in at Venice Film Festival I have seen the film several times now and it remains my favorite indie film of the year. Matias Bize's 'LA VIDA DE LOS PECES' (The Life of Fish) is so minimalist and yet such a hear...

Director: ALEX QUIROGA.
' Five colors' a santera proposes a young Colombian to change its destiny, as long as it helps other five people to find her true ways. Each personage is a piece of immense puzzle that, like the same life, fits perfectly when they cross themselves. The film counts the life of these six people, their hopes and their yearnings, and is the particular tribute of its director to the radio that was listened to in its years of childhood. Álex Quiroga is the founder of Alex Average Group, company dedicated to the support of emergent the Spanish and Latin American directors, and has directed other largometrajes as It happened in Spain (2004), broken-11M Illusions (2005) or Looking for Emma (2007).

What can I say? 'The Life of Fish' is about a young man, Andres (played by Santiago Cabrera), who returns home to Santiago, Chi...

Pike time in Vallalodid, awards and memories

user
Somehow eight days of compact quality cinema viewing have slipped by, the main problem being how to find some time to write at least some of it down between widely spaced out screenings. Downtown Valladolid is a tricky maze of narrow streets with sixteenth century churches at every turn, but fortunately, with an extremely friendly populace willing to steer you straight every time you get lost -- on average, three times a day -- but what a nice city to get lost in! The festival is centred at the...
