The 5th Backlot Film Festival: August 17th – August 21st. Culver City California You, as a filmmaker can define your work by submitting your film by: July 25th 2011. The Backlot Film Festival was founded in 2004 by writer/producer Ross Hawkins to pay tribute to the rich motion picture history in Culver City and LA's Westside. The first Backlot Film Festival was held at West Los Angeles College because a portion of the campus was used by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios until 1967. Over the last five festivals we have honored Mickey Rooney, Bud Schulberg, Carl Reiner, and Daniel Selznick with the prestigious Howard Ince Award. The mission of The Backlot Film Festival is twofold: • To give independent filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work for industry executives and distributors; • To create a better understanding of the major art form of the last one hundred plus years. With the goal of educating, encouraging and empowering new filmmakers in the production process of filmmaking and the art of storytelling, The Backlot Film Festival aims to continue this ongoing dialogue on the future of film while recognizing and revealing the wonders of the past. The Backlot Film Festival announces its show dates for its fifth season beginning on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 with the world premiere of"The Last First Comic" the story of how Burlesque died and 97 year old Irv Benson lived to tell about it."The Last First Comic" was written and directed by John C. Brown and Bart Williams. Showings are at the Arrrow theater at 1328 Montana Ave. Santa Monica, CA. A reception following the premiere will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton in Culver City, CA. On Saturday, August 20, we present the prestigious Thomas Ince Award at Sony Pictures Studio to a celebrity recipient. Live entertainment and dinner catered by Wolfgang Puck will be on the evening’s program. We will conclude the Event on Sunday , August 21st with a reception to all who participated. “See you at the movies” Ross Hawkins - President The Backlot Film Festival Phone: 310.204.6920 E Mail: contact@backlotfilmfestival.com Mailing Address: The Scene Dock, 4244 Revere Place, Culver City, CA 90232 Randall Turner Associate Producer Cell: 310-872-4971 E Mail: rturnerbacklot@hotmail.com
