Galle Film FestivalNews Information and updates for Galle film festival. Information about Festival screenings, events,venues, gala happenings and participants. From the 2 of December to the 6 of December the costal town of Galle will play host to Sri Lanka's inaugural international film festival. The festival will be a five day extravaganza during which time upto 40 Sri Lankan, South Asian and International Films will be screened. In addition there will also be a programme of workshops, in-depth panel discussions and post screening question and answer sessions. The main screening programme titled Cinema 1 will examine a variety of genera, including cutting edge Sri Lankan cinema, award winning work from international film makers, outstanding contributions by emerging filmmakers and several documentaries.
Galle Film festivalFrom 2nd -6th December the historic, Dutch maritime fort of Galle (a UNESCO world heritage site) will welcome Sri Lanka's first ever International Film Festival, THE GALLE FILM FESTIVAL. Successfully launched in 2008 with the Asian premiers of Paul Schraders film 'Adam Resurrected' and Ketan Mehta's film 'Rang Rasiya ' The Galle Film Festival is the first of its kind in the region, promising to be a departure from all the rest.The Galle Film Festival will be more than just a conventional film festival. Using the neutral and popular medium of film, The Galle Film Festival is also taking on the challenge of trust building between communities in a post war Sri Lanka. SHOOTING FOR CHANGE, A major aspect of the festival program will focus on the power of films to inspire cultural and social change featuring Cutting edge documentaries from around the world. Along with the screening of numerous films the event will provide participants with a program of workshops lectures, panel discussions, Gala dinners, fundraisers and post screening question and answer sessions making the festival more interactive. A number of distinguished guests from the local and International film industry have been invited to the festival to participate in the workshops and lead panel discussions and lectures. The workshops will consist of screenwriting, directing, acting, cinematography, editing and the use of music in films. The festivals various activities are being put in place in order to create a place where people can exchange ideas, knowledge and share their expertise and learn about the more practical aspects of the film industry. Charges for the workshops will be nominal as they are aimed at inspired young film interested amateurs who want to discover the film industry.The festival will also lay the foundation for a year long educational program and school, |
