Logo

IN THE PALACE is a renowned international festival dedicated to the promotion of short films, new media and digital arts under 27 minutes in length.

The main purpose of the Festival is to present and promote the contemporary film art from Bulgaria, Europe, and the world. In 2017 IN THE PALACE received an EFFE Festival Label from The European Festivals Association, and with the up-coming 15th edition, it will also hold the honor of being approved by the OSCAR® Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to choose a number of eligible films for their consideration in the Animated Short Film/Live Action Short Film category of the Academy Awards®.

The festival will take place during the last week of June, in the former residence of Queen Marie Alexandra Victoria, situated in the beautiful seaside town of Balchik. It will consist of several essential activities, such as:

• International and national competitive programmes, in 4 genres: fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental
• ON FOCUS programmes - a non-competitive screening programme targeting concrete themes
• Q & A sessions
• Filmer Forge educational programme for professionals
• Pitching Session for young and debuting filmmakers
• Film Industry Market
• Video-library
• USHI FILM FEST - parallel film festival for kids and teenagers
• MUSIC PALACE FEST - parallel musical programme, including live concerts, parties, jam sessions, etc.

IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival provides an exceptionally favorable platform for the expressions of both young directors and established professionals. Founded in 2003, the festival has grown from a competitive forum for student films into the largest and most prestigious short film festival in Bulgaria and the region.

IN THE PALACE is organized by Format SFF Foundation, Veshtina Municipal Centre and National Institute for Culture Research and Policies, in partnership and with the support of National Cultural Institute - Cultural Center “The Palace” - Balchik, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bulgarian National Film Center and the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission.

The 15th In The Palace ISFF will be held from June 23 -30, 2018.

OSCAR SEEKER WATCHES SHORT FILMS IN BALCHIK

OSCAR SEEKER WATCHES SHORT FILMS IN BALCHIK

Linda O. Olszewski – Head Acquisition Executive for Oscar Shorts theatrical, iTunes, VOD, TV and airline releases for the Academy Award nominated short films also known as Oscars will be part of the jury at IN THE PALACE International Short Film Festival in Balchik.

One of surprises of the Festival this year is the all-female jury. The jury members are chosen to represent the female empowerment in film industry, which is perceived as a "male territory".

HUNTING FOR OSCAR, INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION & TV OPS

Linda O. Olszewski is not only an Acquisitions Executive of the biggest short film distribution company, Shorts International and their 24 hour short film TV Channels, ShortsHD, She also has an extensive studio feature and doc production background (Shrek, The Road To El Dorado, Prince Of Egypt, Last Images Of War, Los Voladores de Ueuetla, The Life Of David Gale, car-ma, Cannes Or Bust, Reality Bites, Cohen And Tate). She has participated in numerous global film festival juries and panels, where she has made it her mission to explain the ins and outs of the short film world, the path to Oscar and the rules on how to qualify a short for consideration for the Oscar short film live-action, animation and documentary categories. She has served as senior programmer of the Palm Springs Short Film Festival, Programmer for the Newport Beach Film Festival and also as a feature, doc and shorts screener for the Sundance Film Festival. She co-heads world acquisitions of Shorts International Ltd. – the largest company distributing short films and for ShortsHDTV, Shorts on iTunes, Oscar Shorts. She's also a photographer, so if she has her camera with her - be ready to be in a picture.

THE QUEEN'S GAMBIT IN BALCHIK

"The increasing number of interesting women in the "male" world of the film industry is a fact so we decided to nominate all-female jury this year. Linda Olszewski is the first of the exceptional International and Bulgarian names which will evaluate the competing films in Balchik from 18 to 25 June this year. We are really glad that she accepted our invitation. This shows our position among the most prestigious international short film events. There are more interesting surprises in the list of jury members and among the festival guests." – said the Festival Director of IN THE PALACE Tsanko Vasilev.
