The Tribeca Festival Final Day Paris Hilton, Nicky Hilton, Julia Stiles, Kelsey Grammer, and moreParis Hilton and Carter Reum attend the “This Is Paris" premiere during the 2021 Tribeca Festival at Hudson Yards on June 20, 2021 in New York City. (Photo by Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Tribeca Festival) The last day of Tribeca Festival 2021, presented by AT&T, hosted a screening of Paris Hilton’s documentary with Paris herself in attendance for the YouTube Original, followed by a Q&A with Paris and director Alexandra Dean. The premiere of God Committee saw stars Julia Stiles, Kelsey Grammer and Colman Domingo walk the red carpet, alongside screenings of documentaries, shorts, and films. This and more highlights below.
Paris Hilton arrived in style to Hudson Yards for the screening of documentary This is Paris, part of Tribeca’s 2020 Official Selection: Features. Hilton was joined on the red carpet by sister, Nicky Hilton, both wearing their signature sunglasses as the carpet and screening area was quickly swarmed with adoring fans trying to get a glimpse or photo of the sisters. Paris grabbed fiancé, Carter Reum, to walk the carpet alongside her, which he noted to photographers was the first time he had ever walked one with her. Director Alexandra Dean walked the carpet and introduced the documentary, which is available to stream on Youtube Originals. Paris watched the screening with the audience and joined Alexandra on stage after for the Q&A, which featured this sweet moment:
Carter Reum was having fun with the fans too, pretending to be one himself: Carter: “How do you think she looks?” Fans: “Flawless, just amazing” Carter: “Yeah, that’s what I told her when she walked out of the bedroom.” *Fans Realizing* Carter: “That’s my fiancé”
Julia Stiles, Kelsey Grammer and Colman Domingo stunned on the red carpet for the premiere of God Committee with Julia showing off a beautiful backless dress. They were joined by additional cast members Peter Kim and Dan Hedaya, as well as producers Molly Conners, Amanda Bowers, Jonathan Rubenstein, Harris Gurny, Vincent Morano and Wendy Federman. The feature film follows the moral dilemma of members from an organ transplant committee who must decide which patient to save when a donor heart unexpectedly arrives at a New York hospital. Intro remarks were given by writer/director Austin Stark and guest of the film, Dr. Alin Gragossian, who revealed that she was also a transplant beneficiary and honored to be able to use her voice to bring a platform to the importance of organ donation.
Director Karam Gill, Producers Daniel Malikyar, Andrew Primavera, and Peter Scalettar joined the screening of their documentary, Ice Cold, which explores the aspirational and often misunderstood relationship between rappers and what’s inside their jewelry cases. Through firsthand insight from artists old (such as Rakim and Talib Kweli) and new (A$AP Ferg, Lil Yachty, Migos and more), as well as their most revered jewelry designers (TV Johnny, Ben Baller), discuss what is going on beneath the surface of these high-end purchases.
Co-directors, husband and wife team, and Tribeca alums, Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones, were joined on the red carpet by actress Cailee Spaeny who co-stars alongside Lister-Jones in the apocalyptic film How it Ends. Shot and edited during lock down in Los Angeles over a six month period, the film features a who’s who of comedic favorites, including Fred Armisen, Olivia Wilde, Nick Kroll, and Lamorne Morris, delivering a hilarious and poignantly resonant comedy for our collective ages. Wein and Lister-Jones both got emotional during the Q&A after the film when asked what it was like to be back in NYC again, citing how the film explores the feelings of despair and uncertainty as a means to process the emotions of the pandemic creatively.
In Bernstein's Wall, Director Douglas Tirola mines a rich trove of interviews, television appearances, home movie footage, photos and letters featuring the legendary composer, Leonard Bernstein. Following the screening, Tirola participated in a Q&A at the Waterfront at Brookfield place.
Director Bo McGuire, the queer son of a Waffle House cook and his third-shift waitress in Hokes Bluff, Alabama, took the stage tonight at Hudson Yards for the World Premiere of his documentary Socks on Fire. Friends, family and filmmakers all came out to support the film. Ahead of the screening, incredible drag performances from Rock M. Sakura (RuPaul’s Drag Race S12), Chiquitita and Xunami Muse had the crowd multiplying around the stage, all cheering, on their feet dancing and waving rainbow glow sticks for the queens.
Today's screening of short films included The Difference, My Father the Mover, Welcome to a Bright White Limbo, When I Write It, and Motorcycle Drive By, which focused on Third Eye Blind frontman Stephan Jenkins, who gave an acoustic performance following the screening. After Jenkin’s performance, he was joined on stage by the directors of some of the films including David Wexler, Julia Jansch, and BriGuel (Brianne Berkson & Miguel Gluckstern), for a Q&A moderated by Sharon Badal, Tribeca’s Vice President of Filmmaker Relations and Shorts Programming.
A special screening of Martin Scorsese’s film Raging Bull closed out the festival at Battery Park tonight, complete with an introduction by Jane Rosenthal and a thirty minute virtual interview with Scorsese and Robert De Niro, led by Leonardo Dicaprio. 26.06.2021 | Tribeca Film Festival's blog Cat. : FESTIVALS
