Toronto Film Festival Dailies

The 48th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival takes place Thursday, September 7—17, 2023 in Canada's most vibrant and exciting metropolis, it has become one of the most important film events on the festival calendar.

Showcasing more than 300 films and hosting industryites from around the world, Toronto can "make or break" films looking for international distribution and a chance at Oscar gold. From glitzy red carpet premieres to challenging art films to cutting edge new media, the Festival offers something for every taste.

Where are the women?

For far too long, talented women have been unheralded and unheard.

Here are the facts:

  • Of the top 250 films of 2016, just 7% were directed by women.
  • Of the top 100 films of 2016, only 29% of all protagonists were female.
  • Of the top 100 films of 2016, females accounted for only 32% of all speaking characters.

You can help TIFF change this narrative -- right now!

I’m so proud that TIFF has announced a five-year commitment to increase participation, skills, and opportunities for women behind and in front of the camera.

Together we’re going to:

  • Launch a new, three-month residency programme connecting an emerging female creator with an established female filmmaker;
  • Develop a new female speaker series designed to spark conversation amongst women in the industry and provide deeper insight into the art of filmmaking;
  • Design comprehensive resources for teachers to enhance the curriculum and support classroom discussions about the role of women in cinema

But this ambitious initiative comes at a cost. To make this movement a reality, we need to raise $500,000 in 2017.

Will you make a donation of $50, $100, or $250 dollars today?

Every donation makes a difference.  And because I am so passionate about getting you involved, I have committed to matching donations!

Thank you for your generosity. Together we can shatter the celluloid ceiling and celebrate women telling stories that need to be told.

P.S. -- Don’t forget: I will MATCH your donation, helping double your impact so the next generation of women won’t require special programming to get their fair share of opportunities!

Please make your donation today!
