VIDEO After the success in Locarno now in Turin- Radu Jude's new film-leading actress Ilinca Manolache at the press conferenceNu te astepta pre mult de la sfarsitul lumii is the Romanian title, not short either. The international one is "Do not expect too much from the end of the world", a long title for a long film which I watched yesterday night at the screening reserved for press which started at 8:30 pm and lasted till 11:20 pm. And long are also the working hours of the main protagononist 16-20 per day and she is in a permanent lack of sleep. In part one we follow Angela, this overworked PA who must drive around the city of Bucharest in order to film the casting for a “safety at work” video commissioned by a multinational company, ostensibly to raise awareness among its own employees on the various dangers that lead to work related accidents. Soon she encounters Marian, a halfparalysed worker, who gets the part.Part Two: When Marian reveals on camera that his work related accident is due to the company’s negligence, his statement ignites a scandal, which forces him to re-invent his story to suit the company’s narrative. True to form, Golden Bear winner Radu Jude, sets his absurdist comedic drama in two parts. In a dizzying landscape, cinema, capitalism and technology meet the political sociology of the post totalitarian digital world. Video capture from the press conference: by Alice Kanterian
