Montreal opens today with L’Autre Maison (Another House), by Quebec director Mathieu Roy

L’Autre maison (Another House), the first fiction feature by Quebec director Mathieu Roy (Surviving Progress)will open the 37th Montreal World Film Festival and will be shown in the official competition on August 22, it was announced. “We are very proud to inaugurate the Festival with a film that stars three generations of great Quebec actors,” declared Serge Losique, MWFF President. “The Festival is known for its programming of new Quebec and Canadian talent in all its sections.”

L’Autre Maison stars Marcel Sabourin in the role of the father, Roy Dupuis in the role of Gabriel, the jet-setting reporter, Émile Proulx-Cloutier in the role of Eric, the pilot in training, and Florence Blain in the role of Maia. The film also features French actress Julie Gayet and the Senegalesemusician Zal Sisshoko.

Henri Bernard, 86, suffers from memory loss and periodically escapes from his house in search of a more comfortable one. His two sons, Gabriel, a war reporter, and Éric, a pilot-in-training, disagree on how to deal with their father’s condition. However, the two brothers will have to renew the ties that bind them in order to accompany their father to the enigmatic destination he’s looking for.

Scripted by Mathieu Roy and Michael Ramsey, L’Autre maison was produced by Roger Frappierand Félize Frappier from the company Max Films, with Sylvie Lacoste as associate producer.Mathieu Roy was assisted by Steve Asselin as director of photography, Mario Hervieux as artistic director, Julia Patkos on costumes, Diane Arcand as production manager, Claude La Haye as sound engineer, and Louis-Martin Paradis as editor. Emanuelle Beaugrand-Champagne andNathalie Boutrie were responsible for casting.  The film is released by Les Fulms TVA Ltd.

The Montreal World Film Festival runs August 22 to September 2.  The MWFF is the only competitive festival in North America recognized by FIAPF, the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
