Just Film, a sub-festival of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival dedicated to screening children’s and youth cinema announces that the European Children’s Film Association (ECFA) will appoint a jury and present the prestigious ECFA Award to one film from the programme.

The winning films from each ECFA member festival will move on to the final round where all ECFA members are allowed to participate and choose the Best European Children’s Film of the Year. The award is handed out during the International Berlin Film Festival, Berlinale.

The winner of last year’s ECFA prize was the animation My Life as a Courgette.

ECFA, the European Children's Film Association was founded in 1988, it is aimed at film makers, producers, promotors, distributors, exhibitors, TV-programmers, festival organisers and film educators - all those interested in high quality films for children and young people. At the moment the ECFA has more than 100 members, mostly companies and organisations, from 36 different countries.

Just Film, a sub-festival of Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival sees an annual attendance of 16,000. The festival has two competition programmes – a children’s and a youth film competition, the latter having an international jury.

The 17th children’s and youth film festival Just Film will take place between the 17th and 26th of November 2017.

About Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Started in 1997, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has grown into one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe and busiest regional industry platforms, hosting more than 1000 guests and industry delegates and over 160 journalists. The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations and sees an attendance of 80 000 people annually. In 2017 the festival was covered in 71 languages with a potential global media audience of over 1.1 billion people.

As of 2014 the festival holds the FIAPF accreditation for holding an international competition programme which puts the festival into the so- called A-category of film festivals, alongside other 14 festivals in the world (including Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Shanghai, Tokyo etc).

Black Nights has an umbrella structure with two sub-festivals PÖFF Shorts and youth and children's film festival Just Film taking place concurrently with the main festival,
two off-season festivals - Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and Tartu Love Film Festival - and a fully-fledged film industry platform Industry@Tallinn, organised jointly with the Baltic Event Co-production market.
