As part of Estonian Presidency of the EU Council, Estonia will hold a visionary conference entitled "Pictured futures: connecting content, tech & policy in audiovisual Europe" on 27-28 November 2017 in Tallinn.

The conference aims at taking a broader view of the European audiovisual sector beyond provisions in the Audiovisual Media Services Directive, funding schemes of film funds or the MEDIA programme. Discussions will include where the European audiovisual market is going long-term, where the EU should strive to and how new business models based on algorithms and big data analytics are impacting the industry and our culture more broadly.

Held in co-operation with the Black Nights FF and Industry@Tallinn, the speakers' lineup includes Jeremy Darroch (Sky, CEO), Barak Berkowitz (DIrector Of Operations, MIT), Efe Çakarel (CEO of Mubi) and the Academy Award winning producer Lord David Puttnam.

Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and PÖFF presents:
Regular Crisis - Multimedia Cantata On Global Economy

This multimedia project by the video and performance artist Marina Landia combines video projections with a large symphony orchestra. Movie reflects the ‘mental state’ of the most influential figures in the global economy. Tensions skilfully conveyed with live music will create amazing effects, offering a rather unusual perspective on the current state and potential future of economy. Estonian National Symphony Orchestra will be conducted by Kristjan Järvi, who has recorded the soundtrack for the high-budget German TV series Babylon Berlin, that screens at Black Nights.

The concert will begin with a panel discussion of outstanding visionaries from Estonia and elsewhere.

About Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival

Started in 1997, the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has grown into one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe and busiest regional industry platforms, hosting more than 1000 guests and industry delegates and over 160 journalists. The festival screens around 250 features and more than 300 shorts and animations and sees an attendance of 80 000 people annually. In 2017 the festival was covered in 71 languages with a potential global media audience of over 1.1 billion people.

As of 2014 the festival holds the FIAPF accreditation for holding an international competition programme which puts the festival into the so- called A-category of film festivals, alongside other 14 festivals in the world (including Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastian, Shanghai, Tokyo etc).

Black Nights has an umbrella structure with two sub-festivals PÖFF Shorts and youth and children's film festival Just Film taking place concurrently with the main festival,
two off-season festivals - Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival and Tartu Love Film Festival - and a fully-fledged film industry platform Industry@Tallinn, organised jointly with the Baltic Event Co-production market.

DATES IN NOVEMBER
Black Nights Film Festival 16 Nov - 2 Dec
PÖFF Shorts 20 Nov - 25 Nov
