Best Beard Contest in Sundance In honor of Macon Blair’s impressive beard in Jeremy Saulnier’s BLUE RUIN

In honor of Macon Blair’s impressive beard in Jeremy Saulnier’s BLUE RUIN, RADiUS-TWC and DRAFTHOUSE FILMS announced they are partnering on a beard contest at Sundance prior to the film’s first screening.  BLUE RUIN, which won the FIPRESCI Prize winner in the Directors’ Fortnight program at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, screens Friday, January 17th in the Fest’s Spotlight Section.  A classic revenge story, the film tells the story of Dwight Evans (Blair), a mysterious outsider whose quiet life on the margins is turned upside down when he returns to his childhood home to carry out an act of vengeance.  Proving himself an amateur assassin, he winds up in a brutal fight to protect his estranged family.

When Saulnier conceived of BLUE RUIN, there was no money, no crew and no momentum. There was only THE BEARD...

To prepare for the role of a vengeful beach bum, Blair, his lead actor and best friend, stopped shaving long before they knew if the film would ever come to fruition.  In the months of struggle and setbacks leading up to production, the beard became an off-screen symbol of their determination and refusal to fail. A hairy beacon of hope, if you will.

RADiUS has slated an April 25th release.  The film will be screening at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations as part of their curated "Drafthouse Recommends" series.

In order to enter the contest – which kicked off yesterday – contestants must do at least one of the following:

FACEBOOK

1. Like RadiusTWC, Drafthouse Films, and Blue Ruin
