New year, new films, new chances! It's 2023 and once again we have collectively taken the calendrical turn of the year as an opportunity to take stock, weigh up the pros and cons and assure each other that everything will be better this year. Capitalism will become socially-oriented, rents affordable and our society inclusive. Yeah right. - So what to do?

Make films! Enable culture! Shape discourse! The only way we can come together is by exchanging ideas with one another. What better place to do this than the cinema? And what medium could better describe the myriad individual realities of life, which are hidden between the great political demands and lurid headlines, than the short film!

INTERFILM provides a space, a platform for exactly these stories and different forms of expression. For perspectives, voices and experiences that deserve a wide audience, that need amplification. The festival becomes a discursive space, the cinema a place of experiential encounter, and short film a medium with progressive potential.

KUKI wants to empower, strives to meet children and teenagers at eye level, aims to break down barriers and give young people the opportunity to be seen, heard and feel positively and diversely represented. To achieve this, the team of Young Short Film Festival Berlin works closely with highschool-interns, youth curators and young juries. Under KUKI's organisational umbrella, young people create and influence the program they would like to see in the cinema: fun, fresh, surprising and insightful, aesthetically and thematically.

Our task is to find these films and present them to Berlin audiences and international guests. INTERFILM and KUKI show more than 350 short films every year in more than 50 programs. And so the search begins for innovative short films from all over the world: our new Call for Entries is now open at shortfilmdepot.com.

All genres, all ideas, all stories, all film forms are welcome. Maximum 20 minutes. No premiere necessary!

Announcing: The Festival Curatorium

In 2020, INTERFILM gradually introduced its new artistic directorship in the form of its Festival Curatorium, taking over the role of festival founder, Heinz Hermanns as Artistic Director. Presently, 10 colleagues collectively decide on the curatorial line and the artistic positioning of the festival.

The curatorium is a concept that also aims to integrate the multifaceted nature of short film into its curatorial practice. Although this is often challenging, we celebrate each step of the process. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Heinz Hermanns once again for his invaluable work, which over 4 decades has helped make INTERFILM what it is today: a celebration of short film with an international reputation, strong roots and an optimistic future.

In 2023, the Festival Curatorium is formed by Alexander Stein, Andrea Schwemmer, Cord Dueppe, Fredi Klutas, Heinz Hermanns, Matthias Groll, Matti Swiec, Monica Koshka-Stein, Moritz Lehr and Sarah Dombrink:
