Following more than a decade after Rob Stewart’s launch of #finfree, Canada has now passed historic legislation banning the import and export of shark fin - becoming the first country in the world to do so.

Rob dreamed of a #finfree world and began a movement across Canada, starting with municipalities that included Toronto passing a shark fin ban in 2011. Canada imports nearly 170,000kg of shark fin a year – making it the largest importer of shark fins outside Asia. This bill goes far in our joint fight to save sharks.

Today we salute Rob’s parents, Sandy and Brian, for tirelessly working to fulfill his vision, and join them in thanking the Canadian Parliament for taking this important step to save sharks and protect ocean ecosystems. In just a little over a decade, Rob impacted – and continues to impact - the planet in a massive way. Through the Rob Stewart Sharkwater Foundation, we are carrying out Rob’s legacy: developing his projects, expanding his campaigns and making the world a healthy, beautiful place for all creatures.

He left us detailed plans – and an incredible vision. Today’s win is a sign of many great things to come; we’re busy working on our Shark Free campaign, introducing similar legislation in the US, getting Sharkwater Extinction into China, going undercover in the places sharks need our help, and much more.
