San Francisco Green Film Festival seeks Executive Director, Founder Rachel Caplan stepping down

SF Green Film Festival Seeks Executive Director to Lead the Organization into its Second Decade. Founder Rachel Caplan to Step Down After 10 Years of Leadership.

SF Green Film Festival, the West Coast’s leading event for films and conversations about people and the planet, is seeking its first Executive Director. This decision follows the announcement of the departure of Founder Rachel Caplan who will be leaving the organization this year.

“Launching and leading San Francisco Green Film Festival over the past decade has been my greatest joy, and I'm proud of all that our staff and board of directors have achieved in bringing complex environmental conversations and ideas into the mainstream,” says Caplan. “This year marks the milestone 10th Anniversary of the Festival, and it’s the moment I’ve always planned to pass the torch. I know great things are ahead for the next ten years and beyond, as SFGFF expands its reputation as a leading force for environmental justice, strengthening communities, and growing the green movement.”

The SFGFF Board of Directors has opened the search for the organization’s first ever Executive Director to lead overall strategic, fundraising, financial, and operational responsibilities for SFGFF’s consistent world-class programs.

Caplan launched the Festival in 2011 to fill the need to bring communities together to share urgent environmental stories in the city that's at the forefront of both independent film and the global green movement. In 10 years, SFGFF has grown to a year-round organization with a small full-time staff, and has presented over 600 films with 800 special guests, reaching audiences across the region. The Festival is now a leading force for environmental films and discussions and recognized internationally through its official partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and membership in the Green Film Network, an association of 40 environmental film festivals worldwide.

About San Francisco Green Film Festival

(San Francisco Green Film Festival)

Join us at the 9th San Francisco Green Film Festival, September 11 - September 18, 2019 -- the Bay Area’s leading movement for films and conversations about people and the planet.

Now heading into its ninth year, the annual festival and year-round screenings add up to over 200 compelling and relevant environmental film programs. Each festival presents carefully-curated, new films from both established and emerging filmmakers. They have all provided a participatory space for the eco-savvy and green-curious to meet filmmakers, environmental experts and campaigners to watch, discuss, and create ideas for a better world.

The core of SFGFF programs is to bring audiences the films, expertise and participation that gives them a chance to find their thing, their environmental passion, then hook on and act on it.
