Silent Ones by Ricky Rijneke selected for Toronto Independent Film Festival 2014

The Dutch feature film Silent Ones has been selected for the Toronto Independent Film Festival. The festival held from 3 to 16 September has selected 20 feature films.

The Toronto Independent Film Festival, aka the Toronto Indie, is a separate festival from the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs at the same time. The Toronto Indie is Toronto's film festival for truly independent films.

Silent Ones Ricky Rijneke’s first feature film premiered in Competition at the International Film Festival Rotterdam nominated for the Tiger Award, the competition program and flagship of the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Since then Silent Ones has been screened at many international festivals including Sarajevo, Sao Paulo, Moscow, Montreal, Los Angeles and Berlin, winning six international awards out of eleven nominations.  At the Berlin Independent Film Festival the film won the main prize for Best Film, recently it was awarded twice at the Los Angeles Women’s Independent Film Festival. Other prizes include Best Debut, Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematography.

Silent Ones tells the story of a young Hungarian woman (Orsi Tóth) whose little brother Isti has disappeared without a trace. She leaves aboard a cargo ship heading to Western Europe to keep her promise to him. The journey turns into a surreal trip on the fragile edge of life and death.

Some Press quotes:
”The International Cinephile Society (ICS): “A powerful, very self-assured debut, Silent Ones confirms that the director is one to watch.”

The Volkskrant (leading daily Dutch paper): A wonderful discovery, a confident disrupting debut.

Curator Film PHI Centre Montreal: “Attention talent! One of the best films I saw at the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Outstanding film debut.

Silent Ones produced by Rotterdam Films (Rijneke & van Leeuwaarden) is supported by the Netherlands Film Fund and the Mondrian Fund. French sales agent Wide Management handles international sales. The film will be released theatrically in the Netherlands in December 2014.
