Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes services and offers

Ron Gilbert

I am now living in the heart of the film industry and have been involved in the film and theates industry for almost 50 years.I started out in New York City which was where the acting scene at the Actors Studio (I am a lifetime member) included Robert DeNiro,Dustin Hoffman ,Al Pacino,Robert Duval and other name actors like Martin Landau ,Rod Steiger,Shelley Winters,Paul Newman,Ben Gazzara and the list goes on. That was then and the picture has changed. A stage play in New York names a name Hollywood actor to make a profit. The independent film scene has also changed. Steven Soderbergh commented on that recently at the San Francisco International Film Festival and major companies have taken over the studios.

I still work as an actor in commercials,TV and mostly independent films. I ahve worked with the major directors like Francis Ford Coppola,Sydney Lumet, and  Bryan Singer whom I met on his first feature and the relationship is same even now.

Currently I can be seen on reruns, commercials, short films and indie films.

We are currently shooting this web series

I have 2 award winning  films on the festival circuit American Bred and Courier X

In addition as a member of the Actors Studio I have taught at Strasberg Institute and Theatre of Arts and created 2 acting academies in Italy and have done workshops in London and other cities.the I have been a judge on many film festivals and worked with Independent Film Projects West as a producer on the feature film program and the Spirit Awards.

Los Angeles Film Festival 2012 with Woody Allen

On the opening day of the The Los Angeles Film Festival, the day was filled with excitement  with fans packing the streets and watching the parade and honoring the Stanley Cup champions.

The LA Kings but movie fans were looking forward to Oscar winner Woody Allen appearing and presenting his romantic new film”To Rome with Love”.

So love was in the air all over downtown Los Angeles with smiling faces , the red carpet and the film fans and lovers of Hollywood. The LAFF directors were very smart to garner this film as their opener. Woody must have felt like he was in NYC for a moment within walking distance to the the Staples ,Center,Nokia ,The Convention center, and with the Regal Cinemas and LA LIve across the street to The Ritz Carlton ,The Marriott . Sort of like being on Central Park West in NYC without Central Park. If the festival sponsors would have provided  a horse and carriage  alongside a yellow cab,Woody might  have had a New York moment. But hold on for a moment his new film was  shot in Rome,Italy not Rome New York. Actors are always very happy to be in a Woody Allen film because they might win an Oscar like many actors have or get a nomination  or even better audiences love Woody Allen movies and they will be seen and their IMDB rating will rise..Woody  is really a hopeless romantic and  love is always on his mind and in his movies.Sometimes he even falls in love with the actresses and he actually married Mia Farrow who was one of his stars. Being a New Yorker,I remember him from New York days playing his clarinet and  his girlfriend Louise Lasser who was a waitress at The Bear Garden ,a restaurant in New York owned  by David Milton , a writer .

But that was many years ago.,so let’s get back to the Los Angeles Film Festival 2012  with the  talented female cast members Penelope Cruz, Greta Gerwig, Alessandra Mastronardi and Simona Caparrini.who heated up the red carpet . Film Independent FIND) has an excellent  staff of programmers  for LAFF  who pick the best festivals films from Sundance  ,Berlin and Cannes and lots of surprises with indie films , world premieres and numerous panels with icons in the film industry who provide the most current info on making it in Hollywood today in all aspects of the film industry
I’ve included a clip of the opening night red carpet
