Reykjavik International Film FestivalThe 20th edition of the Reykjavík International Film Festival will take place between September 23rd and October 8th, 2023. Iceland’s major annual film event, the main purpose of RIFF is to offer a wide selection of groundbreaking, independent cinema, and to highlight the work of young and emerging filmmakers, by presenting only first and second works in the Grand Prix competition category New Visions. The objective of the festival is to increase general interest in independent cinema, increase the level of cinematic literacy and enrich film culture in Iceland by offering different cross-platform programs. One minute films by children and a variety of films screened in RIFFToday at RIFF there will be plenty of things going on at RIFF. The fesitival has gone off to a great start !
Over 120 cars turned up to our drive in cinema on Friday and a lot of buzz has been generated around our guest of honour, Ruben Östlund whose mastarclass yesterday was packed with people.
Today we would like to highlight the one -minute films by children shown at the Nordic house at 2 p.m which is a collaboration with Unicef. All the films are shot by children.
The documentary Eisheimat shown at Bío Paradis today at 15.30 will be followed by a discussion, Altman is also shown at Bio Paradis at the same time, and Vivel La France will be screened in Háskolabio at 4 pm. We would also like to highlight the home screening of Crimson Sunset at the home of director Hrafn Gunnlaugsson.
In the evening several directors host Q&A's after their screenings, among them Masbedo who directed The Lack, and Alex R.Johnson who directed Two Step. Both films are competing for the Golden Puffin award. Please visit our facebook page for daily updates of our schedule.
