The Reel Thing: Kubrick’s 2001, AITAF Veterans Day Benefit PM Q&A, 11/11

By Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent

It's been a while since the obelisk fell among the primates in Stanley Kubrick's seminal film, 2001: A Space Odyssey. And whist there are many Hollywood insiders who whisper his involvement in a "staged moon landing" let's face it, George Méliès faked a moon landing in 1902 with Le Voyage dans la Lune. Imagine where humankind would be without having taken this pioneering adventure into the mind of that filmmaker?

With that questionable segue, Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020. Besides having odd numeric significance for many,  the 11:11 favorite amongst the numerology inclined, Arts in the Armed Forces (AITAF) co-head Adam Driver has rounded up some other A-List talent for an 8 PM EST Q&A followed by Movie Trivia Contest.

The movie is Kubrick's 2001 streaming online. This is the AI-fueled masterpiece and prescient voyage that takes off where Méliès left off nearly a century ago...

Feel free to hum the 2001 theme music, during this clip. Pay close attention as HAL (one letter off IBM), asks: "Dave, do you mind if I ask you a personal question?" As if AI has a sense of personhood. Followed by questioning Dave's knowledge about "rumors about something being dug-up on the moon." (Chills!)

The Reel Thing: A Virtual Veterans Day Benefit Movie Night and Q& A will present:

Adam Driver (AITAF Co-Founder)

MAJ. GEN. Charles F. Bolden Jr., USMC (Ret.) (12th NASA Administrator)

Tom Hanks (Actor, Filmmaker, and Most Famous Recovered COVID-19 Patient)

As with all worthy charities, you are invited to not only save the date, Nov. 11, but are now invited to consider showing up in the form of financial participation, sponsorship, or just sending whatever your heart indicates. You don't have to be terrestrial to join the fun, all other lifeforms are welcome, ps.
