A DANGEROUS METHOD at 68th Venice Film Festival

A DANGEROUS METHOD (2011) stars Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Vincent Cassel and was filmed in multiple locations including Vienna, Zürich, Konstanz, Cologne and Berlin. The film takes place during World War I and focuses on the well known historical conflict between two of some of the greatest thinkers of modern science- Sigmund Freud and Carl G. Jung. In the film, their main subject of conflict rests on a woman, Sabina Spielrein (played by Keira Knightley). Sabina met Jung while being one of his patients and after her relationship with Jung she then went on to see Freud. While the film depicts Sabina as the main cause for the discord between Freud and his one time student, Jung, could she also be seen as a symbol for an even greater dispute beneath the surface? After all, the subject of something even closer to their hearts -Psychology- created one of the greatest rifts in psychoanalytical theory and practice. The film promises to provide a peak into the historical debates of the last century about the science of the human psyche (man's new philosophy) in the midst of some repressed and some fulfilled passions.

Following its world premier at Venice, the film will also hold its North American premier at the Toronto International Film Festival next week.
