JEFF BRIDGES to receive THE DESERT PALM ACHIEVEMENT AWARD at 21st ANNUAL PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS GALA

by Marla Lewin

Palm Springs International Film Festival (PSIFF) will present four-time Academy Award nominee Jeff Bridges with the Desert Palm Achievement Award on Tuesday, January 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

Jeff Bridges stars as Bad Blake a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who’s had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. Bridges creates yet another richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero in the vein of the Big Lebowski and his other signature characters.

Festival chairman Harold Matzner commented, “This year, in his remarkable performance in Crazy Heart, Jeff Bridges once again shows us why he is considered one of America’s greatest actors.”

Crazy Heart from writer-director Scott Cooper. is set to open in mid-December, from Fox Searchlight. The film is based on the debut novel by Thomas Cobb and also stars Robert Duvall and Colin Farrell.

Jeff Bridges earned his first Oscar nod in 1971 for Best Supporting Actor in Peter Bogdanovich’s The Last Picture Show. Three years later, he received his second Best Supporting Actor nomination for his role in Michael Cimino’s Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. In 1984, another Best Actor nomination for Starman, which also earned him a Golden Globe nomination. In 2001, he was honored with still another Golden Globe nomination and his fourth Oscar nomination for his role in The Contender. Additional film credits include  Iron Man, Seabiscuit, The Fisher King, The Fabulous Baker Boys, Tucker: The Man and His Dream, Blown Away, Fearless, The Big Lebowski, Against All Odds, The Morning After, Simpatico and The Men Who Stare at Goats.

Past honorees of the Desert Palm Achievement Award include Daniel Day-Lewis, Sean Penn, Jake Gyllenhaal, Liam Neeson, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta and James Stewart.
