Glenn Close film "Pax" wins Best Documentary at Lady Filmmakers Film Festival

BEST DOCUMENTARY AT

2ND ANNUAL LADY FILMMAKERS FILM FESTIVAL! 

 

BEVERLYHILLS (October 12, 2010) – On October 9th-10th, The 2nd AnnualLady Filmmakers Film Festival had a wonderful weekend with quadruple the ticketsales and attendance from the first event last year which exceeded festivalorganizer’s expectations!  It wasan action-packed weekend of films, parties, and industry panels!

 

The festival was attended by Producer StephenGyllenhaal and Director Kathleen Man of “Lychee Thieves”, and Actor Orson Beanof “Piano Fingers” amongst the festival films’ cast and crew participating thisyear.

 

Award winning films include: Best Documentary:“Pax” Directed by Glenn Close and Sarah Harvey ; narrated by Glenn Close. Bestof the Festival award goes to “Butterfly Circus” written by husband and wifeteam Rebekah & Joshua Weigel, directed by Joshua Weigel. Special JurySelection Film winners include: “Red Fish” with David Lynch, Directed byAndreia Vigo; and “Tired of Being Funny” Directed by Rodrigo Garcia, starringJohn Mahoney and Lily Taylor; “Something Special” Directed by Kristi Simkinsand Produced by Barrie Osborne.

 

The festival screened three feature films out ofcompetition and definitely going places; “Jucy”, a “Womance Comedy”, premieredrecently at the Toronto International Film Festival and is giving us a sneakpeak/ charity screening, “Angel Camouflaged” is a brand new “Rock and RollDrama” feature starring James Brolin, Dilana Robichaux, and Carlos Bernard. Our3rd Feature is from Ireland, “One Hundred Mornings” , “Drama”, aboutthe breakdown of civilization as we know it.

 

Panelists included Sherry Sims, CSA (Hannah Montanaand Oliver Stone Films), Jeremy Gordon, CSA (We Bought A Zoo and Last AirBender), Alyson Fouse (Scary Movie 2 and Wanda Sykes Show), Rodney Barnes(Boondocks, and Everybody Hates Chris), and Karen Graci (Mother and Child andTired of Being Funny).

 

The primary goal of the festival is to recognizeand empower lady filmmakers from all ethnic, religious, national, and sexuallyoriented communities. Films from Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Ireland,Germany, Brazil, France, Spain, England, Canada, and Switzerland just to name afew. The festival included a “Halloween Teaser” Block with world premieringfilm “U-2074” Directed by Aya Tanimura. “U-2074” wins best of category.  The Family Friendly block with “Martha”Directed by Katja Straub wins best of category. Films screened have at leastone woman in the role of writer, director, cinematographer, producer, editor,or production designer.

The Lady Filmmakers Film Festival this festivalhighlighted a variety of cultures and world-views. While the festival willcelebrate films and filmmakers for the entertainment value and dramatic workthey bring to the medium, a number of the films selected will also bringawareness to relevant social issues and challenges women the world over arecurrently facing.

 

The Lady Filmmakers Film Festival raised money andawareness to the local women’s charity Mary Magdalene Project, a charity thathelps destitute women. The festival also promoted Glenn Close’s charity BringChange 2 Mind.
