Béla Tarr visits Kaunas with “The Turin Horse” and special masterclass courses

Organizers of Kaunas International Film Festival have promised a surprise: a Hungarian film directorBélaTarr is coming back to Kaunas for the second year in a row. One of the famous master of auteur cinema is going to present his latest film “The Turin Horse”, winner of Silver Bear and FIPRESCI at this year's Berlin Film Festival. Moreover, an iconic director will take camera and teach young cinema trainees.

B. Tarr has announced that “The Turin Horse is his final film. Director feels he has said everything and do not want to reiterate so he has decided to make a pause and give of his time to help young film makers.

“Last year we presented a retrospective of BélaTarr and introduced Lithuanian audience to his unique creation of films. We became good friends during his stay last year. The director was fascinated by Kaunas and City Hall Square, B. Tarr called it one of the most beautiful squares seen in Europe”, said Ilona Jurkonytė, director of Kaunas International Film Festival. “Mr Tarr kept his promise to come back with his newest film and put practically cinematographic Kaunas to the test with a camera in his hand.”

Kaunas International Film Festival, in cooperation with MEDIA Desk Lithuania, presents special mastership courses held by BélaTarr. Hungarian director will conduct training on 4 and 5 September in Kaunas. Six film makers will have opportunity to work with the legend of European cinema.

This year, a special show of the most famous Béla Tarr’s film “Satan's Tango” will be staged during the 5th Kaunas International Film Festival. 7 hours film is considered to be one of the most important 90s cinema creation, which has widened frontiers of cinema language and inspired other film directors.

The 5th Kaunas International Film Festival takes place on 27 September – 9 October in a film theatre “Cinamon”, Žalgiris arena and Kaunas District Public Library in Kaunas. On 3 – 9 September it takes place in film theatres “Skalvija” and “Pasaka” and National Art Gallery in Vilnius. On 10 – 13 October festival moves to a film theatre “Garsas” in Panevėžys and on 13 – 16 September it takes place in a film theatre “Agila” in Nida.
