The Karlovy Vary IFF programmers’ exclusive selection for KVIFF at Your Cinema includes strong movies that earned high praise at film festivals held from last autumn to this year’s Berlinale. Movie screens at nearly one hundred Czech theaters will host the European premieres of three acclaimed titles: Zeina Durra’s engaging, atmospheric drama LUXOR, Fernanda Valadez’ compelling feature debut IDENTIFYING FEATURES , and THE MOLE AGENT, Maite Alberdi’s original cross between spy comedy and observational documentary.

KVIFF at Your Cinema will present 16 films over the course of nine days. Each of the selected works will have only one exclusive screening, which will take place at all participating theaters at the same time. The screenings are being planned in the spirit of the festival and will be accompanied by on-site introductions to the films by the KVIFF programmers. “Since, given the situation, moviegoers can’t come to Karlovy Vary this year, we decided to bring at least part of the festival to them. It’s our way of thanking the visitors, guests, and film enthusiasts who create the fantastic festival atmosphere in Vary every year.

We are thrilled by our viewers’ immense interest, and it’s also huge that nearly 100 theaters have signed on for KVIFF at Your Cinema. I believe that together we will succeed in offering audiences not only great films but even a bit of the traditional festival atmosphere,” says KVIFF president Jiří Bartoška. By the time it was decided that the 55th Karlovy Vary IFF would take place next year in 2021 due to government measures concerning the coronavirus pandemic, the KVIFF program department had already amassed a select group of intriguing titles for the festival www.kviff.com program. And so the idea was born to expand KVIFF at Your Cinema, the traditional postfestival film series.

KVIFF programmers are providing theaters around the entire Czech Republic a comprehensive program block that they can present during the nine days originally planned for this year’s Karlovy Vary festival: July 3-11, 2020. At a time when numerous producers and distributors have been forced to postpone premiering new domestic and foreign films, KVIFF at Your Cinema will provide the public an exciting content alternative, and movie theater operators have expressed keen interest as well.

Thanks to the support of the Czech Ministry of Culture, the City of Karlovy Vary, the Karlovy Vary Region, and our partners, KVIFF has put together a one-of-a-kind film event that will unfold in 96 cinemas in almost 80 towns large and small.
