Julien Dubuque International Film Festival


The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival awards over $35,000 in Cash Prizes as it supports and acknowledges emerging filmmakers from around the world, with a strong emphasis on discovering and encouraging new talent, supporting cause-related films and bringing together all elements of filmmaking. 

The Julien Dubuque International Film Festival (JDIFF) is a five-day celebration of independent film and special events, fostering connections and exposure and yielding substantial results for the independent filmmaker.  The festival has been voted Top 50 Worth Submission fee in 2016, 2017, 2019 & 2021.  


With the majority of events located on Main Street downtown Dubuque; Filmmakers, Attendees and Special Guests are able to attend numerous screenings, special events and interact amongst each other.

As quoted in Filmmaker Magazine "The festival is smartly situated downtown, with an assortment of handsome venues all within walking distance" from the Festival Headquarters, located in the grand HOTEL JULIEN, the same hotel where Al Capone used to hide out from the Chicago Feds. 

Cash prizes are awarded to winning filmmakers; as well as a PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT for those that are Officially Selected into the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival. Filmmakers from around the world are invited to submit films. 

The coveted JDIFF "Feather" award, as well as $35,000 in CASH PRIZES and benefits are given in the following categories:

$ 4,000 Best Narrative Feature
$ 1,000 Best Short (3 - 20 min length)
$ 1,000 Best Short (21 - 49 min length)

 Spend some time with Juefang Zhang and Doval Bacall discussing Financing ideas they have learned through their careers. About Juefang Zhang Juefang Zhang, an NYU Tisch graduate, specializes in Asian-US co-productions and international productions. She currently works as the head of Film and TV at EST Studios to promote Asian content. In 2018, she worked in the directing team of THE DIARY directed by Jackie Chan.

About Juefang Zhang

Juefang Zhang, an NYU Tisch graduate, specializes in Asian-US co-productions and international productions. She currently works as the head of Film and TV at EST Studios to promote Asian content.

In 2018, she worked in the directing team of THE DIARY directed by Jackie Chan. In 2019, her directing work DETOUR was selected for the top 12 for the HFPA Snow Leopard Scholarship and her feature film, MOLLY BLING BLING, has been selected as an SFFILM Westridge finalist.

 

In 2021, she co-produced the Hotdocs documentary WUHAN WUHAN with Academy Award-winner Donna Gigliotti and KungFu star Donnie Yen, which was nominated for IDA Best Feature Awards and won the Best International Feature Award of Doc Edge Film Festival. In 2022, she has co-produced the dramatic comedy film K-POPS! with the 8-time Grammy winner, Anderson .Paak, who is set to direct, and star. She has also executive produced the Sundance sci-fi title Maika and LA Asian Film Festival title Dawning. The same year, she was invited as the panel speaker at the American Pavilion panel during Cannes Film Festival. In 2023, she has produced the documentary HIDDEN LETTERS which premiered at Tribeca and shortlisted for the Academy Awards.

Prior to joining EST Studios, she has overseen Starlight's development deals with A-list directors including Sam Raimi, Jon Chu, James Wan and Roland Emmerich and titles: Midway (2019), Malignant (2021) and Umma (2022). In 2020, She spearheaded the Sundance Institute | Stars Collective Granting Fund, a diversity fund with Sundance to promote BIPOC filmmakers. She is also the jury at Chicago International Film Festival and Berlin New Gen Film Festival.

About Tenten Wei

Tenten Wei has been in the industry for a decade working as a producer and international sales agent. Her knowledge in global markets is unmatched, having partnered with a wide range of international distributors as well as worked on international co-productions. Tenten is currently working as the Head of Distribution for EST Studios, She has also been a consultant for Tiger Pictures, where she consulted on big international titles such as Hi, Mom and I Am What I Am. Prior to joining EST, she was the director of acquisition and distribution at Starlight Media and worked on Hollywood blockbusters Midway, Malignant, and Umma. Before working at Starlight, she was at Instrum International and a few other worldwide distributors as the Head of Asia Sales . She began her career at Jilin Television in China. Wei is now based in Los Angeles.
