Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival

The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival (HSDFF) began in 1992, launched by a small group of arts activists in Hot Springs. That year, 10 Academy Award nominated documentary films were screened to the public free of charge. Veteran actor James Whitmore lent his presence to this first event and spoke of a bright future: "This (Hot Springs) could be the documentary capital of the world."

The Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival 2011 Call For Entries

The 20th Annual Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival seeks submissions for our festival, October 14-23, 2011. As one of the oldest and largest documentary film festivals in the world, we pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve by bringing new, innovative and compelling non-narrative film to the viewing public.

Held in the beautiful and historic vacation retreat that is Hot springs National Park, the festival is a perfect excuse to visit this wonderful city. Natural spring water, abundant trails, spas, and a history of famous guests including Al Capone, Babe Ruth, Franklin D. Roosevelt and others make this the ideal spot for a primer documentary film event.

Known for showcasing the year's most important feature documentaries, HSDFF has also begun to bridge the gap by including alternative and experimental documentaries alongside more highly-publicized work. Short films are also given a good deal of respect by festival programers, perhaps more so than other major festivals.

 2011 Deadlines:

April 1, 2011- Earlybird Deadline. Shorts: $25; Features: $35

May 13, 2011- Regular Deadline. Shorts: $40; Features: $50

May 25, 2011- Late Deadline Shorts: $55; Features: $65

Submission forms are available at, and we are also on Submission fees are discounted if submitted through Withoutabox.
