in ‘Hats Off’ an extraordinary documentary that talks about the life of Mimi Weddell. A woman well past her prime – if age is a factor – but whose surviving spirit keeps pushing in her acting career and life.

Director Jyll Johnstone follows Mimi Weddell over the course of 10 years to bring onto the screen all of the eccentricities of this extraordinary woman. The approach is candid and unapologetic because whatever is in Mimi’s mind will be said as it is. After all this iconic New York actress has no time to make apologies for the way she thinks and feels about her essence and acting career that began at age 65.

"Capping a Carreer" New York Post Review of Hats off

JYLL Johnstone's irresistible "Hats Off" documents Mimi Weddell, a Manhat tanite who, at 93, has pretty much cornered the market playing elegant, very old ladies in movies, TV, commercials and print ads. Mimi's career began at age 65 after her husband died suddenly without insurance. She starred in a horror movie, and the now-frail, bone-thin Mayflower descendant has worked tirelessly since then, including a bit as Sanford's mother in "Sex and the City." "If people slow ...

TV GUIDE: http://www.tvguide.com/movies/hats/review/293092 The face may be vaguely familiar, and if the name "Mimi Weddell" doesn't ring a bell it will after you've seen Jyll Johnstone's affectionate documentary portrait of this unstoppable nonagenarian model and actress. The patrician-looking star of countless print ads, TV cameos and a surprising number of schlocky horror movies, long-time New Yorker Weddell realized her dream of becoming a star (of sorts) after the death of her ...

Such words gnaw at Mimi Weddell, who treats her age as just a minor impediment to stardom, glamor and theatrical nobility. The new documentary "Hats Off&...

You do not lift up from this earth." - Mimi WeddellActress-Model-Mother-Independent Thinker-Free Spirit Mimi Weddell is extraordinary by anyone's account. A striking beauty who speaks with authority and passion on any number of topics, Mimi, cigarette holder in hand, strikes a pose the moment the camera is on her. The Gra...

The film synopsis

user
Hats Off, a feature-length documentary, profiles the beauty and eccentricities of an extraordinary woman, 93-year-old actress Mimi Weddell. With the style and grace of Katharine Hepburn, the smoky wit and wisdom of Dorothy Parker, and her own personal philosophy, "rise above it," Mimi is truly an iconic American original, rising above the mundane and difficult confines ...
