Goya Awards

The Goya Awards, known in Spanish as los Premios Goya, are Spain's main national film awards, considered the Spanish equivalent to the American Academy Awards. The awards were established in 1987, a year after the founding of the Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas de España, and the first awards ceremony took place on March 16, 1987 at the Teatro Lope de Vega, Madrid.

The ceremony continues to take place annually around the end of January, and awards are given to films produced during the previous year. The award itself is a small bronze bust of Francisco de Goya created by the sculptor José Luis Fernández.

Goya nominees reunited in Madrid

Last Monday, the Goya Awards Nominees Gala Night was hold in Madrid.

It is the first important meeting before the Goya Ceremony due in Feb 17th.

Among guest we spotted Juan Antonio Bayona, Pablo Berger, Fernando Trueba and  Alberto Rodriguez, directors of the four films fighting for the Best Film (The Impossible, Blancanieves, The artist and the model and Unit 7).

Actresses and actors, novels or veterans all pleased and honored by their nominations. Technicians, editors, writers, hairdressers, wardrobes chiefs all these people who make the magic of a film come true.

Oscar nominee Paco Delgado (wardrobe, The Misserables) got the applause and congratulations from his colleagues. He is nominated to a Goya for the Best Wardrobe of Blancanieves.

One of the most important moments of the gala is when the president of the Academy, Enrique González Macho handed the Honorary Goya to the Concha Velasco. You may read about this here: http://www.filmfestivals.com/blog/goya_awards/concha_velasco_received_the_honorary_goya_award
