"AN EVENING WITH GARY LUCAS" at the GRAMMY MUSEUM in LA for their GREAT GUITARS series WED. JULY 20th

Very exciting week as I have just been invited to perform "AN EVENING WITH GARY LUCAS" at the GRAMMY MUSEUM in LA as part of their GREAT GUITARS series on Wed. July 20th, beginning at 8pm--I am particularly thrilled and honored as past participants include George Benson, George Thorogood, Richard Thompson and Jonny Lang!

Busy rehearsing my longtime supergroup GODS AND MONSTERS for a big show this Friday at JOE'S PUB here in NYC t 9:30pm. Our new album "THE ORDEAL OF CIVILITY" is getting fantastic reviews and comes on the heels of my recent profile in both The New York Times (which was reprinted in The International Herald Tribune!) and The Wall Street Journal

--check out the links in my latest press release here:   http://garylucas.com/www/pr/pr_latest.html

I will be joined on Friday by guest vocalist Jann Klose, who will perform "Mojo Pin" with me (my song co-written with and for the late great Jeff Buckley)

and Qian Yi, a NYC based Chinese vocalist who was so great in "The Peony Pavilion" at Lincoln Center a few years ago, perfomring some of my arrangements of 30's Chinese pop from my 2001 album "The Edge of Heaven":

Qian Yi and I will present acoustic duo versions of these songs at a special concert at the Rubin Museum of NY om Friday July 8th as part of their acoustic "Naked Soul" series.

This is a warmup for the expanded concert version of this album featuring me, my band, and Shanghain-based singers Sally Kwok and Mo Hai Jin which will premiere June 10th at the Holland Festival in Amsterdam at the BimHuiis..and repeat the next night at the Nijmegen Music Meeting. In Amsterdam we will also do a full band set spotlighting songs from our new album more on the psychedelic rock/jazz side of things. These Chinese pop songs come from fantastic movie musicals filmed in Shanghai in the 30's and 40's and should be of particular interest to all film buffs!

Also upcoming in August: by invitation of the Film Society of Lincoln Center I will perform the US/NYC premiere of my new live score accompanying the legendary Brazilian cult director Jose Mojica Marins' 1967 cult horror classic "Esta Noite Encarnerei no teu Cadaver" (This Night I Will Possess Your Corpse), which I debuted at the Havana Film Festival last December, as part of Lincoln Center's LatinBeat Film Festival at the Walter Reade Theater--stay tuned for more info!  http://garylucas.com/www/cadaver

well that's all for now, please tune in again next week !
